You can use these tips to protect against Exceptional Charges:

  • ensure the truck can park close to your house, office, garden or site
  • store the items to be cleared near to a convenient entrance/exit
  • combine items so that one person can easily carry them all together

If you would rather hold on to as much of your hard earned money as possible and are prepared and able enough to give the truck team a hand (and have followed the tips above) you can ask your truck team if you are eligible for a Quick collection discount.

To qualify all items need to be very close to where the truck can park.

If you really want to avoid costs altogether then try and give as much away as possible. For the givers amongst you Freecycle is a Yahoo group on the internet that you may find useful. Freecycle can be very time-consuming so, if you do join, be sure to check your Freecycle email settings and switch off communications relating to the posts that you are not interested in.

Perhaps there are things others are prepared to buy? For those who would like to make a bob or two, try Ebay, Loot, Craigslist, Gumtree or a traditional local auction. Each has a separate policy for selling and some charge whether or not your item sells so make sure you know how they work before you get carried away. If you choose this route you will find yourself at an advantage if you are brutally honest with your description. Equally, if you become tempted to buy through such sites try to buy only the items that are well described. If you are unsure always question the buyer. The best bit of advice for buying we can give is to not get too attached to something before you know what it is and preferably not before you own it! As for selling junk, the quicker you can let go of the things you own and do not need, the happier you will be.

If you are not able to assist us due to a physical or mental condition (or the person you represent) please ask for a Personal Good Will Discount of between 5% and 10% when you book. We offer two types targeted to ensure that those who need the support most actually do get it. Please Contact Us for further details and we will endeavour to provide you with the best service we can for your circumstances.

Registered Charities and exceptional social or environmental causes receive a 10% discount. Let the office know this when you book and have your organisation's ethos or registered charity number to hand.
